Don’t know about you, but here at The Shmear we’ve been home cooking (and freezing) a lot this week! Not sure about how some of the new kugel recipes will turn out – but one thing for sure is that when I can not eat another bite of my leftovers, I will be heading over to Cantina Feliz in Fort Washington, PA for some of Chef Tim Spinner’s Matza Ball Soup Mexican style!

And if you feel inclined to try a new treat, here is a great recipe courtesy of our own Barbara Murtha:
Note from Barbara: This is a great and easy recipe. It’s the first thing I every learned how to make! I used to stand on a kitchen chair with a bowl in the sink and my mom would add the ingredients for:
Coffee Icing:
¾ of a small box of confectioners’ sugar
½ stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. instant coffee
Boiling water
Put the confections sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Slice ½ stick of butter into pads & add. Add the vanilla.
Boil 1/2 cup of water pour over the instant coffee in a separate cup.
Using an electric mixer on low speed, slowly add a little bit of coffee to the confections’ sugar & butter mixture until it is absorbed, then add more coffee until all of the confections sugar is used up & you have the right consistency for icing.

About Feed Me Bubbe:
Here at The Shmear we have been a little obsessed with a show we stumbled upon on JLTV. It’s called Feed Me Bubbe and it has us in a nostalgic food haze! Apparently, we are not the only ones: “Bubbe” has been featured on Frontline and ABC World News, as well as in the Wall Street Journal and the Boston Globe.
Filmed by her grandson Avrom, Bubbe walks the viewer through classic Jewish dishes in her very own kitchen. While we have become accustomed to watching celebrity chefs with fancy tools and gourmet gadgets, Bubbe’s collection of utensils is mind blowingly simple. And her mismatched dishes, Corning Ware, Pyrex and disposable aluminum pans put the kitsch in kitchen!
You can watch Bubbe make Roast Chicken at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBAKXlh3HR8
And find her at her website: http://feedmebubbe.com/
